Tofino

We spent this past weekend in Tofino with Kris’ dad and little brother. Overall, the trip was a lot of fun. I think Meredith had a blast playing on the beach and climbing on rocks. I get motion sick, though since I’ve become an adult it hasn’t been bad at all. But last time I was pregnant I got much worse motion sick, and it’s apparently the same this time. About half an hour into the trip Kris’ dad had to pull over the car so I could get out and throw up on the side of the highway. I was mortified. Then we pulled into a Tim Horton’s that was about five minutes away because Meredith wanted out when she saw me and Kris out, and we figured a drink or something might be good for me. I walked through the door and felt immediately nauseous from the smell. We had planned to wait a bit more into the trip to announce my pregnancy, but decided that under the circumstances we should probably tell them right away. I drove for the rest of the trip, and was fine even on the windy roads after that.

The weather was beautiful most of the trip, though on Friday banks of fog kept rolling in throughout the day. No rain though, so that’s good. It means we’ve still never been on a rainy Tofino trip, quite an accomplishment I think! Here are some pictures from the weekend. I didn’t want to bring my good camera on to the beach (though I did once) and we don’t have a point and shoot, so the majority of these pictures are taken with a cell camera.

Here's to give you some idea of the height. At least twice as tall as my head. Kris is trying to get her to put her hands up in victory after climbing.

She would need a little bit of help coming down, but then she would just turn around and climb right back up again. She was really good at finding hand and foot holds and would try out different routes up. It was neat to watch.

Here she took off up the rock before Kris was even remotely ready for it lol.

Camera phones don't have a high shutter speed, the fire isn't really a raging, out-of-control bonfire. Meredith kept signing and saying "hot" and trying to blow on it.

I have more pictures and other places that we went, but I don’t want to make this post too long so I’ll split the rest into another post.

  • Looks like so much fun and great weather to boot! How lucky. I like to drive too because I can get motion sick easily. I have to say that for a cell phone, it takes really great photos!

  • It was a lot of fun! I was really glad after how sick I felt at first on just the straight Malahat that driving seemed to work as well as it did.

Some of the first pictures are from our good camera (I did bring it the first day), but yeah it does take pretty decent pictures! At least for web viewing. Not sure how they’ll print out but it’s better than nothing or getting sand in my camera.
